I tried doing that too. I set my statis ip as 192.168.2.100 (what the
router would have finally given me) and default gateway as
192.168.2.1. Only then am I able to connect to the router admin, else
even that is not possible.

But after this, there is no internet connection. The only place I am
able to connect to is the router admin.
