Default Long range in 802.11b

Just to add to that, long haul networks are always better served by setting access point to 802.11b. The reduced bandwidth amounts to higher range.

Add to that 2.4 GHz Yagis or Parabolic antenna + shielded low-loss cables and you got a powerful transmission point.
