Verizon already offers four models of four band CDMA 850/1900 GSM 900/1800
phones. My Motorola A840 works in most places in the world.
Verizon most certainly is not going to offer GSM. That would be a huge
step backwards for it -- all the way back to 2G from 3G EV-DO. The GSM
world has its own 3G standard (UMTS) that is rapidly replacing GSM (and
Japan skipped GSM entirely and went straight to UMTS).
Verizon and Vodafone are planning on a single 4G system that both the
CDMA/EV-DO and GSM/UMTS worlds will convert to around 2011.
A Verizon iPhone is simply not going to happen. AT&T would not stand for
it. With AT&T, the iPhone is stuck at ancient 2.75G EDGE technology. A
Verizon iPhone would have to be EV-DO capable (all of Verizon's high end
phones are), and EV-DO leaves EDGE in the dust.
