Technically, you're allowed by copyright law to make a backup/archival copy
for yourself. Duplicating copyrighted content for any other reason is illegal
unless specifically permitted by the copyright owner.

But if I was downloading copyrighted stuff to my Voyager, I wouldn't be as
concerned about Verizon spanking me as I would about the MPAA and the RIAA.
The RIAA, in particular, is the organization that wants to search people's
computers without probable cause or warrants and goes on witch hunts in an
attempt to crack down on illegal downloaders, all while screwing most of the
artists out of their fair share of the profits. They also want to see criminal
penalties for violating copyrights, which is ridiculous, because intellectual
property protection is and always has been a civil matter.
