I haven't used either one. But I just got a Blackberry Pearl, and several
colleagues at work have (or had) the Q.

Nobody seemed to like the Q very much. The biggest knock on it was that a
charge, even with the oversized battery, often wouldn't last through a
workday. Two of our Q users switched to the Pearl (and love it); another
switched to a (rather big and clunky) Samsung because he liked the larger
keyboard. He too is happy with his choice, especially compared to the Q, which
he hated.

The Blackberry outage affected email, but not phone service or SMS messages.
And it appears that none of my emails, at least, were actually lost. An
annoyance, but not a show-stopper.
