I fail to see how someone password guessing on a website can
possibly know that the particular account he is trying to
crack belongs to a particular pseudononymous poster in an
obscure newsgroup.

Because once I decided hat I needed somthing better than using
the name of my cat on every website and started using a list of
passwords, it was almost no extra effort to use maximum-length
randomish data for those passwords. |
