what OS are you running on this laptop?

Although this answer costs money...it would possibly fix your problem. If you purchase a common wireless adapter, like the edimax EW-7318USG ($29.99), you could just stick it in your USB port and some OS's....like an up-to-date Windows XP, will just install the drivers all by itself and start working. This assumes your system will find the right drivers on its own.

Maybe that will help, I'm not even half as smart as most of the folks on the forum, so if you don't want to risk $30, wait for a better answer!
