The safe bet is to install an OS on the new hard drive since you don't
know why the original HD doesn't load. You could download one of the
bootable CDs, like the Ultimate Boot CD to see if you can access files on
your original hard drive.
If the Boot CD can read your original hard drive than you can follow the
instructions from new drives Seagate/Western Digital utility disk to
clone your original HD to the new HD. Usually that method is to
install the new HD as the secondary/slave HD the boot the new HD utility
disk to format the new HD and copy the partitions and data from the old
HD, remove your original HD and install the new HD as the primary/master
HD. |
