Default Linksys / Network Magic Issues

A few months ago, I changed my "normal" linksys router to a wireless router (WRT54G v1). I have two computes, a desktop (XP SP2), wired to the router and a laptop (Vista SP2) running wireless. For about a month, everything was great. In fact, settting up the Linksys was incredibly easy; took about 5 minutes for everything. After about a month the laptop couldn't connect to the internet. The network connection was "local" only. Also, I couldn't raise the admin page on the router. I could ping it but not view it in a web browser. So rather than spend endless time with LinkSys support, I got another one. The CD had "Network Magic" on it, which I assumed I also purchased. I installed it and it walked me through some steps with Norton, etc. All was really perfect. At night, I turned off the laptap; the desktop remains on. This morning, no net connection at all. I ran Network Magic and it "fixed" the problem in that obviously now I have a network connection.

The issue for me is this: This is my second wireless linksys; same kind of problem. Any ideas what could be the cause? Where I could look? I read some reviews of Network Magic; some are wonderful, others, not so. Also, I'm not sure if I purchased it or not and if not what happens when my "trial" version expires.
