I have worked on a few HP's this summer. One of which had issues with the wireless assistant not working. The wireless button was always orange, and when you would push it to turn on the wireless adapter it would popup hp assistant and say disabled or off. I did a lot of research on this problem and it seem to be very common. Well, for the computer I fixed, the best way to fix it was to uninstall HP wireless assistant through Control Panel>Programs and Features. Vista drivers handle the wireless network card and I have had no other problems. I hope this helps someone else. GOOD LUCK!
