Just something to think about, that booster is pumping ~27dB into a 24dB antenna, which is a radiated power of 51dB. Take some cable loss into account and we'll call it 47dB
This is still above the eirp of 36dB/4W, so it's illegal. Even DSE say the following about the booster:
"In some instances, the use of this high gain booster may exceed allowable RF emission limits. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure they comply with local legislation." http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefron.../product/XH6825
This is all off the top of my head of course, do some reading on link budgeting.
To answer your question, 24dBi antennas are generally used in the 5km+ link range
