Basicly plug the laptop into the lan so it gets internet access, find your wireless card driver and update it using the update tool so it searches the internet for the driver and updates it and installs itself, i did this and straight away it picked up the routers settings and voila internet was able to be recieved through the wireless.

Thank you very much for your helpful solution to the same problem I had after my old router broke down and I was provided with a new router and my Sony Vaio had problems connecting by wireless, So I connected online by LAN cable, opened Device Manager & UPDATED the Wireless LAN adaptor online & it was magic ! my laptop could connect wireless, Excellent simple solution for a complex problem...Thank you so much.
