Well, as great as Skype is, it's not very useful when you're stuck in
a ditch out in the sticks. It's a good program but it's not perfect
either. Dial-up users mileage will vary. The most noticable effect
will be lag. You cut in and out so the person on the other end hears
every other word, and if the lag's bad enough, the call will drop. I
mean don't get me wrong, it's a good service, I have hardcore gaming
friends that use it. They like it. I don't ever call people long
distance. Everyone I need to talk to is a local call or on the IM or
through e-mail. IM's have voice chat as well, so if you're both on MSN
or Yahoo or AIM, you don't even need Skype. Ventrilo's another good
program for voice chat. My guild uses it in GuildWars. The only
drawback is it requires someone settng up a Vent server, which isn't
free, free to use though.
