At a guess, have you a vodafone K750i, if so, they restrict you from using
mp3 as ringtones. If its not vodafone just find the file via the file
manager (it does need to be moved to ringtones, maybe you don't have enough
internal mem space) select 'More' and 'Use as' and select ringtone.

If you need to trim the mp3 use program mp3directcut
