The loss appears to go up because the area (how much RF it 'catches') of
the receive antenna is dropping as frequency-squared. This gives -6
dB/octave path loss slope.

If instead of modeling two-isotropic antennas or two dipoles, one uses
one isotropic antenna (or one dipole) and one *fixed physical size*
antenna, there is no change in path loss as a function of frequency.

If one uses *two* fixed physical size antennas, the path loss
*decreases* with increasing frequency at 6 dB/octave. This is one reason
why microwave and millimeter are so effective for point-point links.
