Yes. You can backup a SATA contents to a PATA harddisk.
And you can backup PATA contents onto a SATA drive.
BUT: you generally cannot just restore a SATA system image unto a
PATA drive and expect the OS to boot. Nor vice versa!
Mostly, an OS needs different configurations and drivers for SATA
and PATA. Even if they seem to boot OK, you might run into
troubles later on, as such a 'hidden' switch between SATA and
PATA is generally not foreseen by the system's designers.
