You have done well, some providers are much worse than other's,
completely removing valuable features in the phone!
I recently had an argument with a provider here in Australia who
deliberately removed a feature that prevented me locking the phone into
GSM or 3G. This resulted in calls continually dropping calls in fringe
areas and they kept denying it.
I eventually proved them to be lying and they finally admitted to doing
it for /commercial/ reasons, then they said I had 7 days to leave them
for /commercial/ reasons!
