Hi Mike
I also still use my Sony Z7, excellent little phone. As for the battery
issue, exactly the same thing happened to me.
I bought a compatible 'Sony' battery, only I have then re-set time and date,
then it appears to work OK, with the original battery there is no problems.
I (always) suspected that 2 of the 4 battery terminals were not live?
