Help design 3 node 1 mile Wifii network I need help choosing my equipment and my antennas for this network. House A, House B, and House C are located out in the boonies. All are within one mile of each other and line of sight. House B has the DSL line and will be the gateway to the internet. House A, and C are all on one side of House B and a 90 - 120 degree sectional antenna could work. I would like to set up each node using WDS if reliable. I would love to be able to hook a wired client at each site plus use the access point as repeaters at A and C for local Wifii access to the internet thru B's DSL line.
Can I use omni directional antenna's at each site. If so, how much gain. Is a 9dbi antenna enough. Or am I going to have to use directional antennas at A, and C pointing towards B. What happens if I add house D that is also located on the same side of house B that is about 4 miles away.
Iam looking at 3 brands of wifii equipment. The WRT54gl which is the most popular and has the most user support. The WHR-HP-G54 which has fair user support but also has 280mw of power. And I am looking at the Engenius Senao 400 mw EOC-3220 outdoor equipment which I would have to depend soly on them for support.
Would love to hear suggestions.
By the way, I have 5 parbolic 24dbi dish antennas that I bought on ebay 2 or 3 years ago. I am not sure I need that much gain for such close range.
Another question. When putting access points such as the WRT54GL or WHR-HP-G54 in weather proof enclosures for outside, do you take the guts out and just mount the circuit boards or do you mostly leave the unit in tact and put in the enclosure. Also, is there a good website that explains how to make a POE injector or cheap place to buy them.
Thanks, Jon
