Default 802.11g - 802.11n

Hi,
i have a macbook with 802.11g wifi card, and i'd want to buy the new airport extreme with 802.11n.
I know the speed is dependent from the protocol and that i won't see speed improvement, but what i need isn't super-speed but just a good range (living in a flat on two floor each one quite big).
Will the 802.11n base assure me some more range than a 802.11g router ?
Giving the fact that is the router that output the signal, i've assumed that this will be greater also if i have a notebook with 802.11g.
Is my assumption correct ?
thanks in advance
