I know people who refuse to sign up for direct deposit of paychecks,
because there "might" be a problem with getting the money in their
account on the correct day.

I think that, in 17 years of direct deposit, the worst has been the
time it showed up in the afternoon of payday.

As for also getting cash, I have an ATM card.
