Default wireless file sharing unavailable

i'm using a custom, stripped down version of XP Pro SP2 (though i do have a legitimate license, the CD is just scratched to hell)

anyway, wireless file sharing options are greyed out. i've tried it numerous times with this XP install and it won't work, however another computer in the house can do it 'straight from the box'

i have a feeling it's a disabled windows component. the install uses the administrator profile (usually hidden for safe mode), but i've tried creating a new administrator user account to see if that'd work - it didn't.

no firewall enabled, SP2 firewall is disabled and my router is configured fine. any help appreciated.
