Lots of people having similar problems.
The "official" answer from HTC (who make the Orbit - they call it the
P3300 or Artemis) is:
Thanks for your email regarding your P3300. The issue you describe is
something we are aware of and are currently in the process of
rectifying. It seems to be linked in some way to the latest updates to
Windows Mobile 5 and as such we have also enlisted Microsoft's help in
solving this. It seems that the device is accessing the memory while it
is in an idle state.
We believe we have now fixed this issue and we are in the process of
creating a ROM update to give this fix to our users. We hope to have
this released to the public in the very near future. In the meantime, to
workaround that, you can set the device to turn itself off after 1
minute in the power options, then let the device turn itself off instead
of pressing the power button.
Once the ROM has been released, it will be available for download from
the HTC website in a new section that will be added when the ROM is
available.
Obviously if you do not wish to wait for this update, that is entirely
your prerogative, and we would like to apologise for the problems you
have experienced with our product.
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do
not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at
