Default Holy Crap! Is that IT?!

This map appeared at every Verizon dealer in Charleston this week:

http://phones.verizonwireless.com/3g/imgs/attmap.jpg

Is that all the 3G coverage the iPhone can connect to?! Why would you pay
so much for so little? The tiny spot at Charleston, SC, is dead accurate.
The 3G footprint doesn't even include the bedroom communities like
Summerville, SC on the edge of Charleston. Is the rest of it that bad?
This is 2009!

Here's the national ad:
http://phones.verizonwireless.com/3g/
I didn't think there was THAT much difference between them....except in SC.

Imagine the sales if it ran on CDMA! Stevie screwed up!

Are Iphoners just in the blue zones? How many iphones are there in MT, WY,
ND, SD, NE, IA, NM, NV where there is nearly no BLUE splotches at all! Do
they sell where there is no 3G service to support them?

Is that honest and legal?!

No, Lair. Even if that is accurate for 3G, there are several other
ways to connect. I cannot imagine needing any more ways to connect
to the Internet, GPS satellites, and other mobile phones than my
iPhone currently provides. Oink!

Do you seriously think everyone would not already know whatever is
you are talking about, Lair?

Meanwhile, back in the real world, my iPhone works great on 3G
everywhere I go, and is the most fun, cool phone out of all the others
(Blackberry, Palm, Nokia) I have ever owned!

Bet that just chaps Larry's ass...

AT&T covers the major population centers with 3G, and falls back to
perfectly adequate 2.5G EDGE everywhere else. One advantage to AT&T's 3G
over Verizon's is the ability to use voice and data at the same time, so
important emails can still come in whileyou're on a phone call. I'm
still using EDGE on T-Mobile (and my wife uses an original Phone 2G) and
frankly speed isn't much of an issue for me- the simultaneous voice/data
is the only thing I'm really jealous of.

So, yes, Verizon has more 3G, but AT&T probably has over 80% of the
population in their wireless coverage areas in 3G.

Probably thought Apple would make more money if the phone worked outside
the US on a widely adopted international standard.

How many people choose a Verizon phone vs an AT&T iPhone only because of
the network? Now compare that vs the entire remainder of the planet
(well, I think there might be some CDMA-only carrier in Mexico, but
that's about it)

Larry are you dringing something different today?

The maps of 3G coverage may be good or not. I do not know. But you do
not see that there is 2G to which is all over. Fruther if someone is
one any part of AT&T's data network and you go near a McDonalds o any
of their other thousands of Wi-Fi hot spots the iPhone seamless
chooses the faster network for data. Verizon users who want similar
neat Wi-Fi coverage can buy it for $20 to $30 a month from AT&T, I
forget the exact figure.

I am beyond satisfied with AT&T 3G coverage where I live. In some
places where they have free - non AT&T Wi-Fi and you have to log in to
use it, I manually choose 3G as it is just as good with less hassle.
The experience wiith AT&T and sites that I know and trust is superb

My biggest chuckle of the day was some dolt who was saying he would
get a turn by turn app with the Verizon Motorola Android. Little does
he realize Google is releasing the exact same map, well not the exact
same, at much better version on the iPhone!
That sounds like hearsay but that is what you get with Google unable
to control the final hardware in Android, stuff get left out.
;>)

It seems that old Motorola Android does not have the built in
electronic compass included in all 3GS iPhones which is an integral
part of the location experience in a hand held device. I can take an
iPhone 3GS and literally see an accurate VR display combined with a
map with another Google competitor's map right now today. This guys
map even updates itself as you drive a new route and it receives your
position back on their servers. It can tell if the road has changed.
My old Garmin and TomToms had maps that were two to there years out
of date even when they got around to releasing a new map!

Well I got to go, over a hundred thousand new iPhone apps and so
little time....

Todd I bet the Easter Bunny and his Jack rabbit buddies have EVDO
based on those Verizon maps. How many data capable phones does Verzion
sell in those areas?

But this thing is sold to connect to 3G, it even has 3G in its model
number! Now, they find out there's nearly no 3G ATT service for their
vacation. No WONDER iPhoners you meet are so defensive and cranky. I'd be
really pissed off! This is worse than The Borg!

actually, they're releasing a *much* better turn by turn gps app for
android 2.0 devices. they plan to bring it to the iphone eventually.

So, to save face, you just bend over and take it up the ass for ATT and put
up with this substandard shit to have an iPhone?

I didn't know the power Jobs has over you people went that far....
