Default AT&T, Verizon Wireless Swap Assets

AT&T, Verizon Wireless Swap Assets to Meet Regulatory Compliance

Today, 1:43 PM by Eric M. Zeman

In order to comply with FCC requirements concerning their recent
acquisitions, both AT&T and Verizon Wireless have agreed to swap
certain wireless assets. Under the terms of the swap, AT&T will
receive licenses, properties, assets and subscribers from Rural
Celluar. This will let AT&T improve its coverage in New York,
Kentucky, Vermont and Washington. In turn, AT&T will hand Verizon its
former Dobson assets in Kentucky.

Just curious - does this means that some Verizon customers are going to get
a letter in the mail telling them that they are now AT&T subscribers with
AT&T service plans, and they have to get new phones and they lose their
unlimited Verizon In-Network calling? And presumably some AT&T subscribers
will be transferred to Verizon? It's reassuring to know we have the FCC
protecting our rights as consumers.

Usually when something like this happens, it's a swap of wireless spectrum
licenses and is normally done to benefit both companies and their customers.

Thats how it worked in my area. The "B" side had various owners with
Altel being the last before VZW swapped other areas with Altel for this
one. Everyone got a letter stating that we would become VZW customers
after a certain date. They then rebranded all of the stores etc. One
thing is that VZW left all of the plans intact. Whatever you had with
Altel you had the same with VZW. I don't miss Altel because they are
really big on not spending money and were really dragging their feet on
building out this area.
