Default Unlimited Laptop Data Plan?

AT&T used to have an unlimited data plan for $59.99 for laptops (with AT&T's
air card). I have been told that AT&T no longer offers that or any other
unlimited plan for laptops. Is that true?

Thanks in advance... Bob

Yes, it's true- AT&T, Sprint and Verizon all have 5GB caps on their data
services.

Sprint:
Data Usage Limitation (Mobile Broadband Cards, USB Modems, Imbedded
Modems and Phone-As-Modem): The amount of data transmitted over our
network is measured in kilobytes (K, megabytes (M or gigabytes
(G. Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount
of data transferred; and to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or
suspend service if usage either exceeds (a.) 5GB/month in total or
(b.) 300MB/month while off-network roaming. 1024 KB equal 1 MB. 1024
MB equal 1 GB.

This is not a hard cap, but a limit to quote IF they decide it is
being abused. I have 2 sprint data lines and they have never limited
me. I have had the data service on and off since 1999. Watching the
videos, tv, and video/pictures sends most people over the "cap".
My son abuses with gaming, skype, videos and gets throttled a couple
times a week. He stops and it is full speed the next day.

ATT Data plan:
DataConnect

* Rate Plan Details
* Services

Rate Plan Details

Included Data 5 GB
Additional data $0/KB
Canadian Data $0.015/KB
International Data $0.0195/KB

I have this as a back up to my sprint service.
I download movies and Vista updates here also and have gone over the
limit with NO problems. They also "reserve" the right to throttle or
terminate IF you go over this 5GB limit.

I have no experience with Verizon.

T-mobile has data with basic plans last I checked. It is NOT
advertised or mentioned. But if data is not turned on, call support
and presto, you can tether. It is available, but not supported. This
means you must figure it out yourself. The tech support will usually
not help you set it up. BUT, T-mobile data was slow....in the areas I
tested at least....Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi.....That was 2 years
ago and things do change often.

Strange, I have AT&T's Laptop Connect plan ($59.95 per month) and I
have yet to see any notification that it was anything but unlimited.
I don't use it much, so I have probably never even gotten close to 5GB
per month, but I would have thought that I would have gotten some sort
of written notice if the (originally "unlimited") plan was changing.

John Navas, do you have any info regarding this?

Best,

Bob

What else would you expect from Berkeley.

Perhaps you're either grandfathered on an older truly unlimited plan, or
you just never noticed.

The current plans are here:
http://www.wireless.att.com/business...comp-table.jsp
which shows a 5GB cap on the new Dataconnect plans.

I use my card for work 5 days a week 9 hours a day virtually non stop. I
also use it when I am not working here and there for personal use. I really
did not worry about the data as I was in the unlimited plan. My employer
gets the bill and I never have any clue to how much data I was using. Since
I saw this post I decided to look at my counter on "3G Watcher", the program
that runs my connection. I have not reset the counter since February and
found the counter at 111 MB sent and 1.05 GB received. That is well under 5
GB per month. Unless you are an EXTREME downloader, I really do not see
where this 5 GB cap would created a problem.

Perhaps a few other things, including the atomic bomb, the hydrogen
bomb, a significant portion of the space program, and Unix.
