Default $100 Credit for Early iPhone Adopters

Apparently the outrage is getting to Apple. Letter from Jobs:
http://www.apple.com/hotnews/openiphoneletter/

"...Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased
an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or
any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any
product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are
still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay
tuned."

What's the point, Apple just cancelled the iPod nano and replaced it
with another product with the same name and more storage which is also
smaller.

The iPod nano is a flop and Apple is going out of business...

While they shouldn't have had to wait for the "hundreds of e-mails"
to pour in, they did the right thing. Kudos to Apple for
acknowledging they burned the early buyers and doing something
reasonable about it.

I don't think they're talking about _time_ as much as _degree_.
If Apple had reduced prices $20 every month, it would be seen as price
adjustment. Doing it in a large amount at once helps all new buyers,
but makes it look like they padded the original price too much, and
offends those early purchasers.

That's it in a nutshell.

What crap!! $100 msrp credit. They probably sell to retailers at
keystone, and Apple's price is half that. So Apple is out $25. Give
them a check for $100 instead. At least they arent limiting it to
software!!

You didn't check any of that, though. Youre inventing scams because you
just don't know, huh?

Apple's Store has varying markuups, but it isn't marked up by 4, and
retailers of Apple products don't get to mark up from that price; they
have to use the same.

I'd guess a $100 credit will end up costing Apple $70-85 per
redemption, and I figure most of the redemptions will be used.
