Default 3G and MediaNet?

If you have a 3G capable phone, will MediaNet use the 3G network or
the EDGE network?

MediaNET is EDGE-G2 only.... 3G would be connecting a different
gateway.

It can depend on what type of SIM you have. Many have reported that
you need a 3G SIM, others that you don't need it (so, it may be market
dependent).

Also, you have to be in a 3G market before you can connect 3G.

My grandfathered MW works with 3G when I'm in 3G areas (DFW, San
Diego, hopefully Tulsa this weekend).

Does anyone have any information on the current state of Cingular's
HSDPA rollout?

It seems like it's been in the same 16 (or so) cities forever, and the
Cingular reps never have any new information for me. Sometimes, they
don't even know what HSDPA is.

Hoping to see it spread soon, especially to my area (Philadelphia).

So, what does this mean regarding the OP's question? My LG CU500 seems to
display Media Net much faster when it is showing a 3G connection than when
it has an EDGE connection. I would expect Media Net to take advantage of
whatever transfer speed the phone was using.
Am I wrong?

Bob

I was advised by Cingular that MEdiaNet will use UMTS where available,
if you have (a) a UMTS-capable device and (b) a "3G" SIM in that device.

Am I missing something, or is Cingular ignoring Los Angeles?

I'm guessing the delay may have something to do with the type and amount
of equipment there, but I have no doubt that it's a priority, since it's
such an important market.
