Default all cingular towers not available for AT&T blue customer

I am a blue AT&T customer

Symtoms:
My v551 - went to Emergency call only
when I turned the phone off , took the sim out, and put it back together.
The phone keeps saying registering/searching for network and then gives
Emergency only.

Other co-workers with orange not having any issues

Cingular Tech response: they are having problems with some cingular towers,
so preference is given to the orange-cingular customers, the former AT&T
customers cannot connect.
I asked her that if I search for the network, I do find cingular, but how
come I cannot connect ? she repeated the above.

As to what I should do. She told me to try my phone on every 1/2 hour. If
it doesn't work for 24 hours, to call them back.

Can Cingular refuse service to former AT&T customers if some of their towers
are down ?

Ask Cingular to switch your account to the orange network. It's pretty
lame that the rep didn't suggest that.

I don't know what color I am ;-)
I used to have an AT&T non-GSM account, and "converted" to a Cingular plan
and a Cingular GSM phone. What color does that make me?

Starting sometime between Friday afternoon and Monday afternoon, I lost my
connection. I have no signal bars, no "Cingular" text on the screen. If I
try to make a call, it just fails, it does not give any other message.

I have a v551 and a v220 doing the same thing. Cingular Service says there
isn't supposed to be any coverage at all where I live, but said nothing
should have changed recently. I drove about 10 miles north, and I got
signal. I even went to the Cingular "my account" page on the v551 browser,
which I assume wouldn't work if I was roaming.

Where are they supposedly having trouble? I have a Cingular network ticket
number, and someone is supposed to call me within 48 hours.

I just got a report that "no one's Cingular" is working from a local store.
Nice to know that Cingular network support is right on top of the
situation.

Considering the coverage area you lost in the transition, probably either
red with anger or green with envy! ;-)

Seriously, however, you're orange. A "blue" customer uses an AT&T SIM on
a grandfathered legacy AT&T plan.

I ended up switching to Orange (Cingular)

What I lost
1. free roaming in Canada and Mexico (and calling to from US) (for 9.99)
2. Free nights and weekends.

What I gained.
1. Much better reception at home previously my v551, T637, V60 worked only
in parts of my home.
