Default Amazon..Cingular.. Palm Treo 650 Web Offer

It looks like Amazon has quite a deal on the Cingular / Palm Treo 650. With
a new activation and after rebates the phone is just.

I am a firm believer that if it sounds too good to be true it usually is
trouble.

I currently have a Verizon account and would go with Cingular if I can get
the 650 for $20 AND KEEP MY OLD PHONE number that is currently with Verizon.

The Amazon site isn't clear on this type of new activation and phone nunber
tranfer.

Does anyone have any input son this?

In the fine print you'll see that Amazon charges a $250 penalty if you
port an existing number to Cingular. A penalty they do not assess if you
port into any other carrier.

To be fair, it sounds like a systemic issue. My guess is that Cingular
cancels Amazon's commissions when the port takes place and Amazon passes
the "savings" on to you! Amazon says they're trying to work it out with
Cingular.

Thanks. Good to know. I really want to get a 700p in any case.
