In the fine print you'll see that Amazon charges a $250 penalty if you
port an existing number to Cingular. A penalty they do not assess if you
port into any other carrier.
To be fair, it sounds like a systemic issue. My guess is that Cingular
cancels Amazon's commissions when the port takes place and Amazon passes
the "savings" on to you! Amazon says they're trying to work it out with
Cingular.
