I have the 8125 version of the phone. It's a great phone. Use it at your
own risk though, because the iPhone will be major step down in functionality
(IMHO).
The 8525 adds 3G. Lots of software available for it. I also have the
$19.99 plan which works great. Voice Command from Microsoft really gives it
alot of flexibility. Screen is very good (get a protector). RF has been
been better than many of other phones I've tried. Add a memory card and you
have a good MP3/movie player. Add a bluetooth GPS (Holux makes a nice one)
and GPS software (I like iGuidance) and you have a very competent GPS. Tons
of tweeks available to really customize the phone to do what you want and
how you want. WiFi works well. Battery life is good. Bluetooth works well.
Camera is ok, but not many phones have great cameras. Syncing via
ActiveSync has been trouble free (especially over BT). Friend of mine got
one and he loves it. I've not met anyone unhappy with this phone. I've
kept this phone longer than most. I would certainly upgrade to an 8525, but
Cingular does not provide 3G in my area, so for me, there is little
advantage over the 8125. I'll get an 8535 with WM6 though.
If you are going to sell it on eBay, better move quick. Cingular should be
dropping prices soon.

you saved me the trouble! I have the T-Mobile MDA (T-Mo's version of the
8125, which are both HTC "Wizards.") Since T-Mo hasn't gone 3G yet, they

If one doesn't mind a few small bugs, "leaked" pre-release versions of
WM6 are all over the net for these HTC devices. (Check out xda-
developers.com for info.) I've been using the "X-plore 1.1" ROM for a
few days, and it's good- certainly the least buggy WM6 version of the 4
or 5 I've tried. (Probably no more buggy than the "real" WM5 T-Mo ROM
that came with my device!)

and uses the new internet sharing app (instead of "Modem Link") that
makes using the device as a GPRS modem much easier- pretty much plug-n-

iPhone is a step down in functionality from the 8x25. Cingular did a good
thing hooking up with the HTC products. I'll second xda-developers.com!
They were one of the sites I was thinking of when I mentioned there is lots
of software available and registry entries that will make the 8x25 sing and
dance the way YOU want it to.
I'm using WM6 (Crossbow) for another application development project.. I
like the way it handles memory and multi tasking over WM5. The app set it
comes with is also an improvment over WM5 (but then WM5 was an improvement
over WM4!).
The OP is welcome to his iPhone when it comes out. You couldn't get me to
make that switch. He's probably better off never getting a taste of the
8x25 phones and getting his version 1.0 iPhone.

The WM5 on the 8525 might as well be Vista Mobile, its such a piece of
Bloatware, as opposed to a user friendly Palm OS or IPhone OS.
It'll be on Ebay tomorrow, as soon as Cingular provides the SIM it was
supposed to come with.

Exactly, except often Navas is guilty of same when he is proven wrong,
as in integrating the ATTWS network into Cingular which he had told us
would be easy and done by the end of 2006, but now tells us its not
done yet.

If you continue on you find there is a difference between the MediaNet
or SmartPhone Connect (which go through a Cingular Proxy) and the more
expensive PDA Connect which allows direct Internet Connection.

Why bother to ask if you had already made up you mind? Exactly where is
Palm OS headed? Even Treo has seen the light. For integrating with a
Windows environment, WM beats Palm hands down. iPhone OS, who knows?
iPhone extensibility? I'll believe it when I see it.
The $19.99 plan works fine. I got signed up at the local Cingular store
across the road. No one pushed a $39.99 plan. I think even a casual review
of most Cingular related newsgroups will inform any interested party that
the $19.99 plan works just fine.

Internet whioch requires the $39.99 PDA Connect Unlimted Plan.
Indeed if you go online at Cingular.com, log in to "MY Account" and
configure it to show the 8525 as your phone, and then click on "Add
Services", the ONLY pure data plan shown is the $19.99 SmartPhone
Connect plan. Lots of plans showing a finite number of MediaNet
megabytes with a finite or unlimited number of TXT Messages.
But with a 8525 why use txt message when you can use email,
and its free to SEND a txt message.
You ask 4 different CSRs which data plan you can have or should have
with the 8525, and you'd get 5 different answers. Yesterday one
started reading me a script about buying Hardware and their
running a credit check.

It isn't a Smartphone, it's a Cellular Pocket PC; now known as a Windows
Mobile 5 (6) Professional. basic test is a touch screen. Smartphones don't
have touch screens.
The capabilities far exceed the ability of most cell phone users. I've had
mine five months can only find 'nits' to complain about. If you are a power
user, you have a wonderful learning curve ahead. If not, enjoy the iPhone
for what appears to be 3 hours at a time. ;-o

The only difference in speed comes for the optional data compression on
Data (PDA/Laptop) Connect. Speed is otherwise the same.
