Default Cingular customer service does help, sometimes.

Well, I know I read alot about how customer service does not help, and how
Cingular does the least possible to assist when you call, but I had a good
experience with them today.
My Razr phone, that I got eight months ago, blew the external speaker so
that my ringtones sounded crappy, and were getting lower and lower in
volume. I was fully prepared to have to mail my phone into Motorola, and use
my old V400 for a couple of weeks, but decided to call 611 on the off chance
that I could swap it through them. I knew that I didn't have the insurance,
just the manufactures warrantee, so I didn't think I would get too far, but
it is a free call. I was pleasantly surprised to have the first
Cust.Service rep listen to my problem, then suggest transferring me to
someone in "warrantee" I expected to get the boilerplate "not our problem"
answer from the first person I spoke to. I spoke to the person in the
warrantee department, told her what color the dot (I assume water sensitive)
under the battery was, and that there was no corrosion on the battery
contacts. She started reading me the terms and conditions of my new phone
they were sending before I even understood that she was agreeing to send
one! I will have a new phone in two to three days, and I will be happy to
remain a Cingular customer.

Sometimes they get it right, too.

Bernard

I had a similar experience. I thought I had lost my V3i and called to
suspend service. I told the rep I was going to search a while longer for
my phone and she said she was going to make a comment on my file to give
me a new phone for $50 if I couldn't find it. I found my phone and
didn't take advantage of what I thought was a very fair and generous
offer considering I had no insurance on the phone.
