Dataconnect plans

I was wondering, how much data would I be allowed to use on a
DataConnect plan. Is there some "hidden" limit where you get in
trouble if you use the card too much?

I'm thinking about getting the 881 Aircard, but I'm concerned too that
the max speeds they publish may not be achievable. Is it true that
cell sites only have one T1, and that I'm going to be limited by the
speed of the T1?

If you get T1 speed, let me know. I chose Sprint over ATT as at that time
ATT's cost was to high. The connect speeds vary with time of day, signal
strength, and tower traffic.

I get about a meg down and 368k up with 3G coverage tethered to my
8925. It seems plauible to me that certain cell sites might only have
T1, aprticularly when some cell sites may also only be capable
of EDGE rather than HSDPA data rates anyway.

I have the $60/mo laptop connect unlimited data plan. The terms of
service prohibit several things (none of which aren't common sense for
a wireless mobile internet provider to restrict), so if you plan on
parking on bittorrent all day long and seeding, that'd probably be one
way to get yourself cancelled.

Side by side with a coworker's Sprint card in Rosemont, IL recently,
the AT&T 3G coverage left his EVDO totally in the dust. But, Sprint
seems to rather suck the big one in Chicagoland for both voice and
data.

Oh, Bob, you also get a 30 day return on new lines, so you can jump in
and give it a try without too much risk. I was concerned about the
performance too when I recently got my AT&T Tilt.

The other way to try it out is if you happen to already have a phone
that is 3G capable on teh data side, you can just add the tethering
data feature to that line. MOst of the data capable phones can
interface to the computer via USB (or bluetooth) where the computer
sees the device as a high-speed modem. The Razr V3xx is one such
phone, for instance.

I use a great deal of data from time to time (hundreds of megabytes)
without complaint. I doubt you would either unless you run P2P
filesharing or a high-activity server.

My own experience is that I almost always get good DSL-like throughput
on "3G" (HSDPA) connections, often better than what I can get in public
Wi-Fi hotspots.

If you have the unlimited data plan, then unlimited means
unlimited...UNLESS they claim it violates the impairment of the network
clause in the TOS.

Some DSL and cable providers have been getting on to heavy downloaders.
They took Verizon to court claiming it was not in the TOS. But the
providers can always fall back on the "impairment of the network" spin.

As to your queestion of hidden limitations, here are the terms and
conditions of the data plan. There are several of em. You can bet
that if your numbers are consitently very high, you'll be scrutinized
as to what exactly your traffic looks like vs this list of no no's.



Prohibited and Permissible Uses: Data Service sessions may be
