Default Freeing storage memory on Cingular 8125?

I am darn confounded. I have only had a Cingular 8125 since 11/25/2006
and I keep getting a low memory warning. I had about 20 apps installs
and I got the message to remove some for more memory and I did. I kept
removing and the low memory message kept returning. I am down down to
five apps installed and my settings still indicate I'm on the verge of
getting another message soon. Here are the numbers:

Storage: 47.46 MB
In use: 45.80 MB
Free: 1.66 MB

I have done at least 4 full system resets in three months and it is
such a pain to have to take this route to free up storage memory. Can
anyone suggest a method or a prgram I can use to see what's eating up
my storage memory and how to free it without having to do yet another
full system reset?

And is this problem peculiar to the Cingular 8125? I also have an IPAQ
RX1955 that uses the same Windows Mobile 5.0 os and it has never given
me a memory error in the 14 months I've been using it.

Thanks.

Jan

Jan, I had the same problem until my wife showed me that I needed to clean
out SENT messages from emails. I did this and freed up a ton of memory,
particularly when I had attachments.

How this helps!

Thanks! I deleted remants of emails I know I deleted weeks ago but
they weren't totally gone. What do the makers of an os think the word
"delete" means. I deleted directories left behind by deleted programs.
What I think the problem may be is CE type operating systems don't
give users the same configuration options as a real os. There is no
regedit. There is no command prompt. They just dummy up around every
corner. When I used DOS 2.1 I had some real control and the utilities
available let you do anything, but nowadays I think they think they
are designing for pea brains.

While I agree with what you've said, Windows CE has excellent third party
support. A freeware app called "Total Commander" (
http://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm ) combines a registry editor, file manager
with REAL LAN support, FTP and zip/unzip support. It's the first app I
install on a new CE device.

Oh, BTW, try clearing the cache in IE (Menu >Tools > Options >
Memory(Tab) > Delete Files)- it'll probaby get you 6-8MB of storage
back. Then use Total Commander's reg editor and move your IE cache to
the storage card.

Then hang out at Howard Forums or xda-developers.com and check out a
variety of reg tweaks. WinCE devices need a bit of tweaking, but then
run as smooth as a proverbial baby's bottom.

It is an 8125 and you aren't giving yourself any room to work with
with only 1.6 MB free. You need to delete some of the files to free up
more space. Normally you need at least 5 MB free to keep the phone
running smoothly, but this is no quarentee. The phone itself is
equiped with to slow of a processor so I would try adding omap to your
phone and bump it to 250MHZ, this will help tremendously.

Total commander did the trick, Just deleting the IE cache brought be
up to 24mb of storage memory, but I haven't figured out how to
permanently moved the cache to my mini_sd card when I have 2gb (at
least when it's empty ... right now I have about 1/2 a mB available).
I will look up those other resources you mentioned. I put all my apps
back and still have 14mb of free storage memory.

Thanks. Where do I get omap? I'll google it but I ask anyway just in
case I don't find it.
