Default Getting POP3 emails using Media Net

I'm thinking about moving from Nextel to Cingular's 3G network. Is it
possible for me to get POP3 mail on a Cingular phone using either the
Samsung A707 or LG CU500 phone? I want to be able to get my comcast
mail and surf the net with a Media Max 200 plan. I do not want to go
with the PDA or smartphone due to the high monthly cost of a data plan.

I got differing advice when I spoke to a rep at the Cingular store and
when i spoke to someone else over the phone at Cingular customer
support. Most don't even know what POP3 is and I seem to get a
different answer every time.

I have the CU500 and it is a great phone. However, I can't seem to get
it to work on my POP3 email. I will discuss this with Cingular in the
next couple of days when I get time.

I don't know about those specific phones, but as far as the network
goes, no problem.

You don't need a PDA or smartphone plan with a PDA or smartphone. With
no data plan, it's $0.01/kB which works out to $10/1MB, which is the
same cost as the cheapest MEdia Net package.

The best way to do that route would be to get the device without a data
plan, then add it later, online. However, Cingular's pricing for, say,
the Treo 680 gets you the good price only if you get the PDA Connect
unlimited plan at $40/month.

You can get POP3 email with any phone that has an email client with the
necessary support if your email provider permits POP3 access.

I personally use and recommend free Google Mail, which has POP3 access,
a slick WAP interface, and now a downloadable Java (J2ME) email client.

I have had the CU500 about six weeks and like most things about it. It is
not, however "email friendly." Theoretically it doesn't support email at
all, but there are workarounds.

With the free Opera Mini browser software (which is excellent), I can access
Yahoo! mail and my company email using the Web Access (OWA) feature of
Exchange Server. I expect you could use Opera Mini to access the Comcast
web site and use email as you would from a PC.

If you're in a 3G area, the Internet speed is good, and Opera Mini is an
excellent browser with satisfactory speed even in EDGE areas.

If you have more than just casual email needs it's probably not the best
phone. My Moto V557 is much better for email.

The CU500 is still my favorite phone in spite of the email shortcomings.
