Default GSM Booting sequence

I want to know how a gsm mobile gets connected to its network for the
first time when it powered up for the first time given there are six
other gsm operators working. Can anyone help me out?

Default Re: GSM Booting sequence

Your post was a little difficult to understand, but when you buy a GSM
phone with service (or you buy a phone and already have service and
have retained your SIM card) your phone gets the necessary connection
info (freq, account ident, etc) from its SIM card. Thus your phone will
connect to a specific service provider based on what it reads off the
SIM card. Your phone will also identify itself (that is to say, the
specific handset will identify itself) using its IMEI (International
Mobile Equipment Identification) to give the network an address so to
speak, for it to route any calls to. This number also allows networks
to block specific handsets, ie if they have been abusing network
privleges or if they are known to be stolen. If you don't put any SIM
in the phone you can still make emerency calls to numbers like 112,
012, or 911 (there are more but 911 is specific to the United States)
without a SIM in place. In this instance the handset identifies itself
using its IMEI number, and I'm guessing connects to a 'prefered
network' if one is available, or to the network with the strongest
signal.

If you want to find your IMEI number it will be on the side of the box
that your phone came in, or on any GSM phone you can input *#06# on the
keypad and you will be given the number.

Hope this helps
