Default IMAP and MEdiaNet

My LG CU500 does not seem to support email directly, so I have been trying
to use MEdiaNet to access my company mail.

There are options in MEdiaNet for setting up IMAP accounts but I have not
been able to get consistent results. Initially a few old email messages
downloaded to my phone during several different attempts, but since then I
get no IMAP downloads either to the phone or to the MEdiaNet inbox on my
computer.

Has anyone had success using IMAP with Exchange Server 2003? If so, do you
have any suggestions regarding my setup?

TIA,

Bob

I'm no Exchange expert by any means, so I held off replying. But since you
haven't received any other replies, I suppose straws are better to grasp at
than nothing... ;-)

I'm not sure you can do what you want to. I don't believe you can access
Exchange e-mail via IMAP unless the server is explicitly setup for that.
Can you setup the e-mail client on your home PC to access your Exchange
account via IMAP (as opposed to setting it up as an Exchange MAPI account?)

You may be limited to accessing it via OMA on the phone's web browser
(assuming your Exchange server allows for Outlook Mobile Access.)

Does Cingular offer a "corporate E-mail" access plan (like T-Mobile, my
provider), does? If so, they could retrieve your e-mail for you at their
server, and send it to your phone via SMS or MMS. (All for a fee, of
course!)

If I'm way off base, I apologize- this Exchange stuff is all new to me.
I've only been playing with it since they've rolled out "push" e-mail on
WinMobile-based phones.

Thanks for your response, Todd. I was starting to feel invisible!

I was able to accomplish exactly what I described using my MOTO V551 & V557,
but they are designed for email while the CU500 definitely is not.

I finally came up with a workaround similar to what you suggested. I
installed Opera Mini and am able to use OWA (Outlook Web Access) with it.
It's not as simple as I'd like but it works. The good news is Opera Mini
apparently keeps track of my login info with a cookie so when it opens OWA
it is already logged in to my account.

By the way, for any lurkers, the MEdiaNet browser doesn't work with OWA
because it doesn't support panes.

When I need a more robust browser I use DUN and my PocketPC, but I was
looking for something "quick and dirty" to check email. The 3G capability,
at least when I'm at home in Dallas, is really fast both with the phone and
DUN. That's why I chose the phone.

Bob
