iPhone Update 1.1.2 -- Failed. Restore.

Just a heads-up for everyone updating iPhone to 1.1.2, now being
offered by iTunes at your next sync.

iTunes 7.4 offered me the update 1.1.2 for my iPhone. The update ended
with error 1602 and the iPhone was inoperable. Showed only a cute image
of the dock connector and the iTunes logo. Apparently this is the
screen for "This iPhone needs to be reset."

Apple's web site says about error 1602, "Completely remove iTunes and
Apple Mobile Device Support and then reinstall iTunes 7.5 or later."

Ugly.

Calling Apple got me an excellent iPhone tech support person (in
Canada) within 5 minutes. Not bad. He said:
- reboot the phone
- plug in
- let iTunes restore the phone and sync (several steps).

This worked fine with iTunes 7.4

Tech support thought that photos, notes, and current text messages
would be lost in the restore. Not so; all these are on my restored
phone (?? restored from mac/iTunes? or the files on the phone stayed
there?).

No, my phone has not been hacked.
