Just curious, which carrier did you switch to, and what's the reason
for switching?

Verizon.

I left Cingular because while they have superb coverage, the customer
service leaves something to be desired..... Like service.

At least 2 years ago, Verizon was actually worse in my experience.

I always wonder about the people that have such horrible customer
service problems. I've had many carriers, GTE Mobilnet, Cellular One,
AT&T, Pacific Bell Wireless/Cingular, and Verizon. I don't think I ever
had any problems with customer service. Sometimes there is just no
possible solution, but even then the CSR is not nasty or argumentative,
they are just apologetic.

I know that statistically Verizon is rated as having the best customer
service by quite a wide margin, and I know that one person's experience
doesn't mean as much as professional surveys, but what are the actual
problems people have with customer service? Are they asking for
unreasonable things?

In my wife's case, it was a complete pain in the butt resolving
repeated billing errors, and the the customer service agents were not
terribly helpful to the cause.

With Cingular, I'm happy to report there hasn't been an issue I
couldn't get resolved, and in fact, early on, I had a really positive
customer service experience whereby I got a call from someone claiming
to be from the president's office of the company following up on my
plea for "why can't I find out how many minutes I've used quickly and
easily so I know if the next phone call I'm going to make will cost me
nothing, or cost me an arm and a leg?" Story or not, whoever called
was in a dead quiet office (quite obviously not a call center), and
unhurriedly spoke with me for over 20 minutes telling of the pilot
program they were working on that we now know as the voice reponse
units menu item for current month's usage, and *MIN. I was
impressed.
