Default Moto V557 on pre-paid?

My Cingular (att) contract will be ending soon and I want to go to pre-paid.
Can I still use my Moto V557?

If you mean pre-paid on the same carrier ... yes. The phones are the same.

To use it on another carrier (e.g. T-Mobile) you will need to get the
phone unlocked.

Yes, I mean to still use on att as prepaid after my sentence-er contract
expires. I no longer want to be obligated to a contract. I was forced to add
2 yrs onto my already existing 2 yr contract to upgrade my old 3G phones
(which I paid for the new phones - $150. a pop) when service started getting
bad after the hurricanes in FL. Cingular told me buy new phones and a new
contract with it, or live with dropped calls. So after my extra long
contract ends this yr, I will be going prepaid or with another carrier.
