Phone Tools 4 won't Restore or Sync Motorola V551

SUMMARY: With (BVRP Mobile/Motorola) Phone Tools 4, Restore of previous
Backup of Contacts fails consistently with Error trying to write to my
V551j phone. Likewise Sync from Outlook with all Contact items deleted
from my phone. Likewise trying to create and save a new Contact to my
phone with Phone Tools 4.

DETAILS: About 570 Contacts. Backup was created with Phone Tools 4.
Restore/Sync to phone only, not SIM. Error occurs with progress bar at
about 20%. Nothing gets written to the phone (Contacts stays empty).

Checked in BVRP Forums. Found this to be a known problem.

BVRP says, "it is being worked on". No information on when it might be
fixed.

WORK-AROUND: Removed Phone Tools 4, and after reinstalling Phone Tools
3.30, Restore (and Sync) work properly.

Yes, this is a pain in the royal tush for V551 owners. I too had to
uninstall and back off to a previous version. BVRP are not very
helpful. In fact they are not helpful at all. Besides saying they do
not know when or if it ever will be fixed they point the finger of
blame toward Motorola saying that's the way Motorola wanted MPT
released. I have trouble believing that Motorola wanted a broken
piece of software released. Especially with no warning that it does
not support V551 when doing a live update. Does not give one warm
fuzzy feelings about the company BVRP/Avanquest.

In my case versions up to 4.04 work, but no higher version will work.

BVRP/Avanquest just released version 4.36 to fix some synchronization
issues. Unfortunately:

* Live Update to 4.36 won't work from 4.21a when 4.21a was Live
Updated from an earlier version -- Live Update to 4.36 only works
from a standalone install of 4.21a

* Like 4.21a, 4.36 doesn't recognize the V551 -- the phone must be
installed manually.

* Like 4.21a, 4.36 crashes a V551 and fails when trying to Restore
the Phonebook from a backup.

Owners of the V551 should stick with version 4.04

SPOKE TOO SOON: With more testing I've run into problems with 4.04, and
had to revert to 3.30.

CORRECTION: Owners of the V551 should stick with version 3.30.
