Default Push to Talk Comparison - Cingular vs. Verizon

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to compare two push to talk (PTT) services in my area,
one from Cingular and the other from Verizon. I am not including Nextel
as their PTT and cellular coverage in my area is very limited. Both
Verizon and Cingular have digital coverage in my area though Verizon's
CDMA coverage is a bit more complete than Cingular's GSM.

Can anyone speak to how the two PTT services compare?

1. From what I have read both PTT services have an initial "connection
establishment" latency (10 seconds), followed by a fairly small latency
(1-2 seconds) for the rest of the conversation.

2. Are there any plans to discontinue PTT service for either carrier?
Verizon only has two phones for PTT on their website, none of them with
Bluetooth or broadband access. Singular has 4 different phones all of
which come with Bluetooth and one with broadband access speed. The
other have EDGE capabilities.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Cingular PTT, based on Kodiak technology, is far superior to Verizon
PTT, with superior features and roughly comparable latency as compared
to Nextel iDEN.

Verizon reportedly plans to upgrade PTT with EV-DO Rev A, which could
put it on par with Cingular and Nextel, but only for those with EV-DO
Rev A handsets.
