Maybe he does own the newsgroups. Who cares? As far as I'm concerned, he
can own all of them. At least he provides useful information. How many
other posters can claim the same?

Elmo, you've got problems, you need to see a shrink!
Re: Who is John Navas, and why does he think he owns any newsgroup he chooses to claim he owns?
That is correct. John seems to be a good guy and is very helpful.

I'm verifiably not John Navas, but I agree with the various comments. I've
often gone to his web pages for information that was very helpful. And he's
pretty good about answering questions here as well, although his style
obviously irritates some. That's fine, I can deal with it, and I'm sure my
own style irritates some in rec.bicycles.tech where I most-frequently post.
Probably the main thing that bothers some about John Navas is the "finality"
of his posts. He leaves very little room for error or opinion. I, on the
other hand, find it safest to assume that those times I'm 100% certain of
something, I'm usually wrong.

When he backs himself into a corner, he attempts to take the high road
by redefining the topic at hand.
For example, his claim that propagation range is not a factor of the
frequency. In spite of us professionals that attempted to show him the
error of his thinking, he changed his argument by quoting us all the
other just as relevant factors and avoiding the direct topic he
erroneously stated.
Then there's the "extended GSM" issue. In spite of no references to it
in any trade journals or web sites, his response was (to the effect), "I
experienced it, so it has to be true" and "I have confirmed this with
another engineer".
And he never did tell us when the last time he opened a Nokia or
Motorola cellular base station to do maintenance.

John Navas has contributed useful information? As opposed to his usual
argumentative, condescending, "You're wrong!" type posts? Guess I missed
that one.
Re: Who is John Navas, and why does he think he owns any newsgroup he chooses to claim he owns?
Yes, John Navas does contribute useful information to this newsgroup on a
regular basis and he does own this newsgroup. Now be nice, or John will not
let you play in his sandbox.
