I have ATT SE T616 and would like to get the unlock code...have contacted
Cingular and they claim they are working on it, but its been 3 \weeks and
they lost the info and resubmitted the request.

I don't think Cingular has unlock codes for ATTWS handsets. Your best
bets may be to (1) pay an unlocking service, or (2) get a new cheap
unlocked handset -- the T616 is pretty much obsolete/worthless.

Supposedly Cingular tech area can provide unlock codes, its just a matter of
the incompetatant customer svc reps getting the request correct. I want to
use this as a travel phone next month. The customer service reps are ill
trained and some of the calls are apparently handled by off shore call
centers.

(With that kind of attitude it's not surprising you're having problems.)
Cingular can and will provide unlock codes for Cingular branded
handsets. Your issue is an >> old AT&T Wireless branded << handset,
which Cingular won't unlock AFAIK.

Cingular does have the unlock codes...and they provided it late this
afternoon.
Since they absorbed the ATT Wireless company, they also handle tech support
for these issues. This was verified with SE TECH Support before I went the
Cingular route.
I am amused by your comment (With that kind of attitude it's not surprising
you're having problems.)

FYI,
That must be a new policy, because Cingular previously refused to
provide ATTWS unlock codes.

SE Tech Support is not part of Cingular.

Wow! This must be a recent change in policy. Anyone who still has an
old ATTWS GMS phone and wants it unlocked should jump on the bandwagon
asap. ATTWS never supplied unlock codes and when Cingular bought
ATTWS they (Cingular) refused to provide the ATTWS unlock codes too.

I am aware SEricsson tech is not part of Cingular...AS I stated, I contacted
SE Tech Support as a point of reference before I went back to Cingular.
I provided the IEMI number to Cingular and they have a database the tech
department used to locate the unlock 16 digit code.
