Default AT&T Wireless Reps Promises

When you call a real AT&T employee and they make certain promises regarding
your contract, and you go to a AT&T store to make good on the promise, don't
be surprised if the store rep (non AT&T employees) denies you of the
promises
because they simply go by the book and say they can not make good on the
promise.

This happened to me when the AT&T phone rep told me I could wave the 2 year
contract
commitment if I already had a GSM phone, in hand, to replace my TDMA digital
phone and
sent me to a store to get a new SIM card and start the plan with no need for
a 2 year cotract.

I am one of the last holdouts under the Cingular TDMA plan for $24.95 a
month plan.
I am now being charged $29.95 a month and still using my TDMA phone.

There is a disconnect between AT&T's promises and fulfiling them at one of
their stores.

Depends if its a company owned store, or an independent.

Customer service can do certain things that AT&T does not allow the retail
stores to do. Unfortunately often the customer care reps may not be aware
of this and send the customer to the store when it is not something that can
be done in the store. While I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions usually
the fault does not always lie within the store.

It was an independent AT&T wireless store.

I'm not sure what you mean by "independent AT&T Wireless Store". By
definition if it was an indendependant it was not an AT&T Wireless store but
rather "XYZ Wireless, Inc.". I assume you mean an independent dealer and
not a company owned store. If that was the case all bets are off, they can
do whatever they want.
