If you look at a map of Cingular's coverage in Texas, there's a big
blank spot notheast of the Dallas area. Sprint is the only one of the
national carriers operating here.
For the past few years, I've asked occasionally at Cingular stores in
the Dallas area about any planned expansion here. I got various
stories, but the one that kept popping up had to do with some sort of
contractual agreement with AT&T that prevented it.
But now that AT&T/Cingular are one, I've no idea what might hold it up,
other than it just doesn't fit into Cingular's plans somehow.
Is there any way to find out IF Cingular plans to expand coverage in
this area? I've called and asked a Cingular rep, but he said they don't
have that info.

Can you be more specif in the area? I don't see any big dead spots on the
Cingular viewer, much less any dead spots in Collin, Hunt, Grayson, Fannin,
or Cooke counties.

The viewer shows light coverage in east Texas between Paris and Uncertain,
but during Thanksgiving week, I not only got good coverage all over that
area of Civil War history, but had Internet transmissions plus constant
connection with Telenav.
The 150 residents of Uncertain complain of coverage with Alltel, claiming
the closest tower is 35 miles to the east in Shreveport. Now that would be
some tower.

Another poster asked for more specifics. I'm in Lamar County (Paris),
and while some areas of the county gets spotty reception through
Cingular, Cingular isn't sold in the Paris area. The nearest sales
point is in Commerce 40 miles south of Paris.
I think we're covered for roaming on other networks, judging from the
map, but not for CIngular's networks. And, of course, Cingular wouldn't
want you roaming constantly. Hence, no sales up here.
