i use the treo as a modem without paying for it. i have not upgraded
to HSDPA, the speed is kind of slow. i connect at 240kbs. here are
the instructions for windows xp using the hot sync cable:
Setting up the handset
1. On the PDA, press and hold the red power button to activate the
phone feature.
2. Tap on Start, and then tap on Programs.
3. Tap on the Modem Link icon.
4. Ensure that USB is selected from the Connection drop down list.
5. Tap on Activate.
Setting up the modem
1. On the PC, connect the USB cable from the handset to the USB
port of the PC.
2. Windows will recognize the handset and install an HTC USB Modem.
3. Click on Start, Settings and then Control Panel.
4. Double click on Phone and Modem Options.
5. Click on the Modems tab and click to select HTC USB Modem.
6. Click on the Properties button.
7. Click on the Advanced tab.
8. Type at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.cingular" in the Extra
initialization command field.
9. Click OK twice to return to the Control Panel.
Setting up the connection
1. On the PC, return to the Control Panel and double click on the
Network Connections icon.
2. Click on Create a new connection.
3. Click Next on the New Connection Wizard.
4. Tick Connect to the Internet and click on Next.
5. Tick Set up my connection manually and click on Next.
6. Tick Connect using a dial-up modem and click on Next.
7. Check only the HTC USB Modem and click on Next.
8. Type CNG GPRS for the ISP Name and click on Next.
9. Type *99# in the Phone number box and click on Next.
10. Type
ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM in the User name field.
11. Type CINGULAR1 in the Password and Confirm Password fields.
12. Select from the available options below and click on Next.
13. Click on Finish to complete the setup.
Making the connection
1. On the PC, return to the Network Connections folder and double
click on the CNG GPRS icon.
2. Ensure that the Dial field displays *99#.
3. Click on Dial.
You will now be connected to the AT&T GPRS service
