Default Turning off data service to blackberry 7280

I have cingular and have an internet / text messaging plan. I have
200 some free text messages but internet is a ridiculous charge per kb
and they will not let me block its use (if I access it accidently).
Is their a way to use my blackberry without it attempting to retrieve
email or connect to the internet? It would seem its sole purpose is
to retrieve my email, and I just wanted a cheap qwerty keyboard and
pda cell phone.

Sort of- if you can edit the data settings, change the access point name
(or "APN") to something ficticious, like wap.fake.com. After that
you'll probably get error messages occasionally when/if it tries to
connect, but that beats $10/MB charges. I use this trick when roaming
overseas. It's easier to change the APN to an invalid one rather than
try to remember to disable each connected app and e-mail account
individually.

While I see your point, it's kind of like complaining you have to pay for
car insurance and registration because you bought the car soley for the
radio! ;-)
