Please help me understand AT&T's upgrade policy. I've been a customer
since they were Bellsouth Mobility, over 10 years now, and I'm on my
4th phone with them. For the past 2.5 years I've used a Treo 650 with a
data plan. I'm considering upgrading to a Treo 750 (the iPhone doesn't
do what I need). When I log into the AT&T website and select the
upgrade path, I find that I can get a 750 for $399. 99.
If I were a new customer, I could get the same phone for 399.99 with
rebate cards totalling $150, making the whole transaction $249.99.
I understand the need for AT&T to drum up new business, but surely
there can be some kind of incentive to keep long term customers.

You may want to hold off abit, the Kaiser and Q9h is going to be released
real soon for AT&T. I have a Treo 750 its OK, somethings like its one
handed use is nice, but the screen on the 8525 is far better. I am
planning on selling my Treo 750 sometime soon. Someone at work expressed
interest after she hosed her BlackJack.

You have to have completed 18 months in a 2 year contract to be
eligible for discounts.

It's $100 for a Motorola v3xx if you renew or free if you're a new
customer. That basically says that they don't care if I stay or go.
You'd think that after 4 years of paying my bill on time that I'd be
worth more than a new customer.

You need to call customer service and go up the ladder and speak with
someone decent, I have had them credit my account for $50 after I bought
two Sync's for my daughters which were supposed to be free, but the url
wouldn't allow me to order them. The lady I spoke to said, get the phones,
and I'm crediting your account.
My brother in law basically has done the same thing, he uses at&t for his
business (not a big one, but still he has and expensive plan) they always
give him good discounts on posted prices.
For whatever reason now that ATT is in I have better luck in the stores. I
purchased a Blackberry Pearl in the store for $50 after rebate ... compared
to $150 online with new plan. I would suggest going to the store they seem
to be customer friendly for a change. I personally am done with the Treo
(Own a 700W) ... what a brick. There are a few good looking WM6 phones
coming out in the next couple of months ... the Moto Q9, the Helio Ocean
type phone, a new 8525 with flip keyboard.

The referral site for Cingular at Walmart.com offers the same pricing for
new or 2 year renewal, free for a V3xx.
Oops. Did. The text behind the rebate has changed on that page.
Still free on Amazon, though. http://tinyurl.com/3xe5yn
Motorola RAZR V3xx Phone (AT&T) Price After Rebates: $-24.99
"Your price paid includes an equipment discount of $250 that has been
provided to you in exchange for either activating a new, non-substitute
line of service or renewing an existing line of service with AT&T..."

I'm out of contract and eligible.
Fortunately, I did some digging around online and found that I'm
eligible for the premier pricing (which was the price that I quoted
earlier), and with some further digging, found a special deal where I
can get a Treo 750 for $99.95, but boy did I have to search for it.
RJ...do your homework like you have been doing....there are a lot of deals
out there..Calling CS may get you a great deal...it has worked for me in the
past..as mentioned in the thread,.but again do your home work...The new AT&T
Tilt (AKA HTC Kaiser) will be out with in the next few weeks along with the
Q as mentioned..
