Default v3 razr charging cable?

I recently traded some work for my buddy's old Cingular Motorola v3
Razr phone. He is mailing me the cables and goodies though.

In the mean time, how can I charge this thing? I have tried a
standard mini usb cable, but for some reason it doesn't want to work.
I see no indication that the phone is charging anyway.

I've consulted the manual and they show an angle connector that goes
between the travel charger and the phone. Electrically what does that
do? Am I safe to assume I'll have to wait for the OEM goodies to
come from my friend before I can charge it?

Otherwise, the phone seems to work fine with my SIM and all.

Thanks for any shared experience!

Best Regards,

Something wrong with that. My V3's charge just fine using a standard
mini-USB cable. The battery icon flashes when it is charging.

Hrmm.

I'm wondering maybe if not having the motorola cd and drivers perhaps
prevent the computer from sending voltage to the USB cable? I haven't
installed those, and cancel out of windows new hardware wizard....
This line of thinking got me searching....

Dennis, do you have PhoneTools installed? If so and my lack of that
might explain why I'm not seeing it charging on my end. I have seen
at least one mention that said phonetools might be necessary to enable
the charging by usb?

Can anyone confirm or deny? Did phonetools come with the phone or is
that something moto/cingular forced you to get on your own? (i.e. is
my technically impaired and very bad about keeping original software
buddy likely to even have this software?)

This link seems to be rather explicit in the RAZR requiring the driver
software to charge via standard usb cable:

Crafty bastards at Moto.

Ah, you learn something new every day. I don't have PhoneTools,
but I charge the phone with a Mac and the operating system
certainly recognizes Motorola phones attached to a USB port,
suggesting the presence of some sort of driver for it. It
may be that the Mac operating system out of the box knows
enough about the phone to do whatever is needed to persuade
it to charge.

Running to try it with my ancient iBook dual USB.

Hot damn! It works! Thanks Dennis!
